WEST JEFFERSON - A cold-shooting second half doomed the Lady Rams Friday night in West Jefferson.

Leading 29-21 at halftime and 37-29 after three, Starmount only scored six points in the final frame and dropped a heart-breaking 48-43 decision to Ashe County.

Guilford College bound Heaven Walters scored 17 points in the opening half to power the Rams to a seemingly comfortable eight-point lead at the break.

But Walters - who was held scoreless after halftime - and Starmount only managed 14 total points in the half as Ashe clamped down defensively.

In addition to the stingy defense, the Huskies found their shooting stroke and dropped 19 fourth-quarter points to pull out the 48-43 victory.

Whitney Pardue and Brayln Hampton scored six points apiece for the Rams, while Darion Dobson added five points. Morgan Randleman and Alisha Baity tacked on four points each.

Starmount fell to 1-3 overall with the loss and 1-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference.

The Lady Rams return to the court tonight against rival Elkin looking for their second win of the season.
