The Foothills Quilters are bringing warmth and comfort to The Ark homeless shelter this Christmas.

The local quilting group, comprised of approximately 25 active members, has made charity quilts one of its main projects, and this Christmas they will be giving their handmade quilts to every woman and child staying at The Ark this holiday season.

Carol McDowell, a charter member of the Foothills Quilters, said the quilters have given Christmas quilts to The Ark for the past five years.

“We choose to donate to The Ark because there is a constant need in our community and The Ark proves that, and we want to show our support for The Ark and the people staying there,” McDowell said. “At Christmas time there is no better way to show our help and support than to give them something warm to have.”

According to Jane Motsinger, former executive director of The Ark, there are currently 10 adults and five children living at The Ark.

Motsinger met with the Foothills Quilters Tuesday to express her gratitude for their donations.

“You have no idea what these quilts mean to our people,” she said. “Last year when one woman opened her quilt she was in tears and said ‘There’s just so much love in this from someone I don’t even know.’”

The quilts will be wrapped by Foothills Quilters and given to the people of The Ark to open on Christmas day.

“They will be overwhelmed,” Motsinger said. “This is what makes their Christmas.”
