Mr. Stephen Martin “Marty” Smith, age 57 of Jonesville, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012. Mr. Smith was born July 13, 1955 in Surry County to James Otha and Magdalene Martin Smith.

Marty’s career with musical groups over the last 40 years includes; performing with The JET Band, Mordecai, Smokey Joe, Stormy with Melva Houston, Split Decision and most recently The Mixed Emotions. He also performed on shows with The Four Tops, Pure Prairie League with Vince Gill. Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, The Band of Oz, The Embers and Lee Greenwood.

Marty was also stage manager for Sound & Light Productions of Yadkinville for the past five years. He loved to share his music with others and assist other musicians, young and old, aspiring to do the same.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Wagoner.

Survivors include: his brother, James Otha “Jimbo” Smith II of Jonesville; sisters, Jenny Case of Jonesville and Kathy Billings of Elkin; stepson, Lee Simpkins; brother-in-law, Nicky Wagoner; special friend, Brandy Johnson and her children, Clarissa, Austin and Kinley.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Jonesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Swafford officiating.
