ELKIN - Eleventh-ranked Elkin is the only remaining area team still alive in the soccer state playoff picture.

After receiving an opening-round bye to open the tournament, the top-seeded Elks breezed past Avery in the second round 4-0 Saturday afternoon to advance to the Sweet 16 in the 1A bracket.

In the third round, Elkin will take on sixth-ranked Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy tonight in Mooresboro.

The Gryphons, who received a No. 1 seed in their pod, advanced to the matchup after routing Highland Tech 5-1 in the second round.

Thomas Jefferson Academy complied a 13-4-2 record on the season, including a 9-3-2 mark in the 2A/1A Western Highland Conference.

The match is set to kick off at 6 p.m. from Mooresboro.
