Noah James Settle “Uncle Jim”

Jim Settle of Okeechobee passed away October 21, 2012. He was born in Hayes (Mt. View), North Carolina. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a sonar teacher. He moved to Florida in 1957 and to Indiantown, FL in 1970. He retired from a long insurance career in 1985. Jim was an industrious man.

He was a man of integrity and strong faith. He shared his love of God through autoharp music and gospel singing. He enjoyed sharing his faith with all his friends at Dunklin, The Gathering Place and House Church. He loved talking about his family; he was a “storyteller”. He was very social – loved talking to people. He was a gardener growing beautiful flowers and vegetables.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Luffman Settle; second wife, Betty Mack Settle; son, James Dexter Settle; and grandson, Jeffrey Dale Settle.

He is survived by his son, Gary Brent Settle; daughter, Loretta Settle Nash; brother, Joseph Settle; two sisters, Elizabeth Key and Margaret Joyce; four grandchildren, Gregory James Settle, Cynthia Settle Waddell, Scott Settle and Stefanie Settle; five great grandchildren, Haley Settle, Alfred James “A.J.” Waddell, Jenna Settle, Sarah Waddell and James Carter Settle.

Services to remember and celebrate Jim’s life will be held in North Carolina at a later date.

His family wishes to thank all his friends for their love, support and assistance throughout the years.
