RONDA - After six tries, new Cardinal head coach JK Adkins finally has his first win under his belt.

And he can thank Dalton Key.

Key racked up a career-high 304 yards Friday night to power East Wilkes to its first victory over the season, as the Cardinals edged North Wilkes 36-27 in Ronda.

The senior added three touchdowns to his career night - two rushing, one receiving.

East, now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the Mountain Valley Conference, spoiled former head coach Monty Chipman’s return to Ronda. After nine years as the Cardinals’ head man, Chipman resigned in January before taking over the Vikings in the offseason.

The Cards look to build on the win when they head to Alleghany this week.
