Things are heating up at Twenty One & Main with new Chef De Cuisine, Jeremy Clayman.
After four years of business, Twenty One & Main owners, Erika Bullock and Jeffery Gibbs, are welcoming a new addition to the restaurant’s culinary family.
“We feel that every year we are getting stronger, and this has given us an opportunity to continue to grow and not get lackadaisical,” said Bullock. “Our passion is first and foremost cuisine, it’s the Yadkin Valley wine region, and it’s to be entrepreneurs. And without Jeremy, it wouldn’t be possible for us to continue to grow.”
Clayman, who attended Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, has cooked at five star, five diamond hotel restaurants and highly acclaimed restaurants throughout the South, gaining a reputation as an inventive and resourceful chef. It was while he worked as Chef De Cuisine at Charleston Chops in downtown Charleston, S.C. that he first met Gibbs, who was Charleston Chops’ Executive Chef at the time.
With Clayman now on board at Twenty One & Main, they plan to make the restaurant a sustainable, eco-friendly, and locally-invested establishment. The first initiative will be teaming up with Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery and planting a sizeable garden on Grassy Creek’s property. Clayman hopes to start growing a minimum of 75% of the vegetables that the restaurant will use.“In doing that, obviously that’s going to keep us more seasonal and keep things rotating, but it’s also going to force creativity,” Clayman said.
On August 19 at noon, Gibbs and Clayman will be sharing the news about their partnership with Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery. The tasting room will be open for purchase of wines and tastings. Lunch will be offered for $8 a person, along with a bluegrass performance from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., and the opportunity to meet and welcome Chef Jeremy Clayman and his family to the Yadkin Valley. In the case of rain, the event will be moved to Twenty One & Main’s location at 102 E. Main St., Elkin.
