The first regulation little league baseball field in Yadkin County was built in 1974. Located on Brawley Road in Courtney community, it has been a viable addition for use by the whole county due to the dedicated and determined efforts of the Deep Creek Community Deveolopment and Improvement Association.

The building was erected by members' hands and materials. Founded in 1964 by residents of the Deep Creek/Courtney area who saw the need to provide and preserve values that add to the quality of life or residents of their community and beyond, the center provided a place for groups to meet, celebrate, etc. This came to include picnics, parades, ice cream socials, family celebrations, activities for children and special Christmas suppers for seniors.

The Deep Creek Community Center is in dire need of repairs and improvements. If funding for these needs is not found soon they will be forced to close the doors. The members believe the rural way of life and neighbor to neighbor concepts are worth keeping.

A fundraising event is planned for May 31 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the center's grounds. The community cook-out and cruise-in will offer all residents of Yadkin County the opportunity to enjoy a wholesome family outing complete with good food, local music makers, classic cars and trucks, old fashioned games for kids, cow chip bingo, homemade ice cream and strawberry shortcake. Special guest Dale Hayden whose truck appeared on CMT's "Trick My Truck" is coming from Lucama, to share the fantastic makeover "The Boyz" accomplished on his big rig. Dale is on a mission-come hear his story.

To everyone who believes in the worth and importance of community centers everywhere, I extend an invitation to you to help Deep Creek Community Center reach their goals. To continue to be a centralized influence for us all and for all those to come, we hope you will join us for a very important day of fun in the effort to save Deep Creek Community Center.
