LENOIR -- The shutout streak continues, and so does Forbush's girls soccer playoff run.
The Falcons beat Hibriten 2-0 on the road Wednesday night in the district finals of the 2A state tournament.
Lindsey Lineberry netted the first goal at the 14-minute mark, and Katelynd Caudle added the second score right before halftime with a blast from about 40 yards away.
Forbush (20-3) moves on to the sectional championship (final eight in the state) on Saturday, where conference rival Wilkes Central awaits. The game time still has not been set.
Wilkes Central (17-8-1) finished second in the Mountain Valley 2A Conference behind the Falcons. Forbush beat the Eagles twice in the regular season, 2-1 and 6-1.
Coach Kenan James' Falcons have now won 15 games in a row and have not given up a goal in 14 of those contests. Of their 20 wins thus far, 16 have been shutouts.
Against Hibriten, Forbush held a 15-3 edge in shots on goal. Hibriten's season ends at 13-11-1.
"When the game started, both teams were feeling each other out," James said, "It didn't take long for us to figure out that Hibriten was giving away the weak side of midfield. We were able to switch the point of attack in the 14th minute and find Lindsey Lineberry one on one with her defender. Lindsey blew passed her and buried a low shot far post."
Forbush was dangerous throughout the first half, earning four or five corner kicks and peppering the goal with shot after shot, James said.
"Hibriten came out strong at the beginning of the second half but backs Krystle Matthews, Cari Beck, and Kayla Cline were able to shut them down," James said. "We dominated possession in the second half as well as shots. Goalkeeper Courtney Phillips had to make only one serious save."
Forbush came into this week as the No. 4 ranked girls soccer program in the state. The Falcons started the season with losses to Trinity (3-1) and Wesleyan Christian Academy (1-0) but have won 20 of 21 since. The other loss was a 2-1 defeat against 4A North Davidson on March 20. The Falcons have outscored foes this spring 125-10.
The other two teams remaining on the 2A West side of the bracket are Shelby (14-7-4) and West Davidson (21-2). The Forbush-Wilkes Central winner will play at the Shelby-West Davidson winner in next week's 2A West final.
