WINSTON-SALEM -- Starmount's boys basketball team will try to crash the party at an otherwise all-Forsyth County field in this year's Frank Spencer Holiday Classic.

The tournament will be held Dec. 27-29 at Wake Forest's Joel Coliseum. Organizers scrapped the national field for this year's event and instead made the tourney an all-local affair.

The Rams will take the No. 2 seed into the 12-team tournament, receiving a bye from first-round action. Starmount's first game will be Dec. 27 at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of the West Forsyth-Parkland game.

The Rams are guaranteed at least two games. Mount Tabor holds the No. 1 seed. Winston-Salem Prep is the No. 3 seed.

Tournament organizers obviously took into account last year's success for Starmount when organizing the seeds. The Rams still have 6-9 Virginia Tech-bound forward Victor Davila this season but are off to an 0-2 start thus far.

If Starmount and Winston-Salem Prep, a powerhouse 1A program, both win their openers, they would meet in the semifinals. For the second year in a row, Davila would get the chance to go up against a Miami Hurricanes signee, this year's being Prep's 6-9 Reginald Johnson.

The semifinals and consolations games will be played Dec. 28, while the title game will be Dec. 29.

The Rams into another tough opponent in Calvary Baptist out of Winston-Salem on Tuesday, falling 60-37. An 18-7 run by Calvary in the third quarter buried Starmount.

Davila led the Rams with 12 points, while Cody Spicer added 8, Antonio McClelland 5, Matt Brown 4, Tyler Jackson 4, Jake Barr 2 and Shane Bryant 2. Former Starmount point guard Kaleb Altiery scored 11 points for Calvary Baptist (6-0).

Starmount's girls got their first win under new coach Kyle Hutchens, racing past Calvary 66-34. The Rams (1-3) held their hosts to just seven points in the opening half and outscored Calvary 44-27 after the break.

Mary Katherine Taylor led the way with 14 points, followed by Jordan Raye 13, Erin Bledsoe 11, Taylor Doss 8, Rebecca Alpin 7, Meme Brown 6, Cory Hutchens 5 and Kelsey Stamper 2.
