On the boys side, Andrew Craver and Matt Pilcher of Forbush and Greg Mathis of Starmount were voted to the first team. Tyler McCormick of Forbush made honorable mention.

David Riska of North Surry and Kayla Branciforte of Wilkes Central were voted Runners of the Year. Wilkes Central's Gary Benesh and Adam Furr were tabbed the league's top cross country coaches.

Swimmers compete in first meet

Starmount's girls placed second in a three-way meet against Davie County and Forbush on Monday.

Juliana Prim won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle for the Rams. Kim Benton touched first in the 100 butterfly.

The Davie girls finished with 154 points, followed by Starmount 64 and Forbush 35.

Davie also won the boys meet with 146 points, followed by Forbush 51 and Starmount 8. Taylor Waddell (200 free and 100 free) and Hunter Carter (50 free and 100 breaststroke) won two events each for Forbush.

U-13 soccer tryouts coming Dec. 2

The tryouts begin at 4 p.m. For more information, contact Seth Davis at seth.davis@yadkin.k12.nc.us.

Corrections

* Ethan Sloan's name was inadvertently left off the list of Starmount boys soccer all-conference players published in a recent edition of The Tribune and Yadkin Ripple.

Sloan was one of the Rams' top defenders this season.

* Chris Hampton of Yadkinville played his entire college football career for Davidson College after graduating from Forbush High. He did not, as we reported last week, transfer to Davidson from another college after his freshman season.

We regret the errors.

State volleyball finals on TV

All four of the 2007 NCHSAA state volleyball championship games -- including Starmount's contest against Cardinal Gibbons -- were televised and are now available on Time Warner Cable systems across the state.

The games are available on Carolina Video on Demand, channel 1234, and are free for Time Warner digital subscribers. Mac Edwards provides the play-by-play, and former Raleigh Millbrook coach Kathy Stefanou, the state's winningest high school volleyball coach of all time, is the color commentator.

Starmount lost to nationally ranked Gibbons in three games.
