Staff Report
Yadkin County commissioners voted unanimously to adopt a resolution Oct.15 supporting the application of Baptist Hospital/Davie County Hospital to build a replacement facility in the Advance area of Davie County.
Officials say southern Yadkin County, including Yadkinville, is part of the service area with access to the hospital. The new Davie Hospital will be built on U.S. 801 near I-40.
The proposed hospital will have 81 beds and contain a broad range of services including obstetrics, medicine, surgery, endoscopy, diagnostic imaging -- including MRI and CT scanning -- and physical and respiratory therapy.
The hospital will be one of approximately 20 "smart hospitals" in the United States with digital patient records, which is said to reduce medical and medication errors.
"Baptist Hospital has a proven commitment to maintaining rural hospitals," said Kim Phillips, chairwoman of Yadkin County's Board of Commissioners.
Phillips said the new hospital will be "much larger and have more services than Hoots Memorial Hospital," but shouldn't be competition.
"(Hoots) has 22 beds and has a different mission than the proposed community hospital in eastern Davie County, so the board is in total support of the Baptist/Davie County application," she said.
