Christmas marches in with parade Sunday
by Jessica Pickens
Ronald McDonald and his big red shoe car will be leading the Elkin/Jonesville Christmas Parade, which will start at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
It is the first time in 10 years that Ronald McDonald will be in the Christmas parade, said parade coordinator Vicki Roberts.
The parade will start at the Jonesville Public Library, go down Main Street to Winston Road, turn by Wilco then cross the Gwyn-McNeil bridge.
The parade will then turn right at Comb’s Butcher Shop, go to Yadkin Valley General Store then turn left on to East Main Street.
Roberts has helped coordinate the Christmas parade for 13 years.
“It’s a wonderful thing,” she said. “The week of the parade I’m floating around town.”
This year there will also be five high school bands in the parade including Starmount High School, East Wilkes High School, North Wilkes High School, Forbush High School and Elkin High School.
There are about 120 groups marching in the parade, Roberts said.
Also, this year classic car drivers are not being charged an entry fee. Usually 40 to 60 vintage cars ride in the parade, she said.
“We are asking that drivers of classic cars in the parade bring a canned good for Tri-C,” Roberts said.
The Elkin Christmas Parade will take place rain or shine.
The parade will end at Elkin High School.
