The period for candidates to file to run for office in the November 2011 election opens in North Carolina at noon Friday, July 1.
Election filing dates extend from this Friday until noon Friday, July 15. Candidates must file at their respective county’s Board of Elections office.
In Elkin, three municipal government seats will be on the ballot in this year’s election. The terms of Mayor Lestine Hutchens and Commissioners J.L. Lowe and Gill Ripley end this year.
Hutchens and Ripley have already confirmed to The Tribune they will be seeking re-election. No official word yet as to whether Lowe will run for another term.
Several seats on the councils of Surry County’s three other townships will also be up for grabs in November, including three commissioners’ positions in Dobson.
On the Jonesville Town Council, three commissioners face re-election. The terms of Commissioners Tommy Casstevens, Wayne Moore and Gene Pardue expire in 2011.
The candidate filing fee in Elkin and Jonesville is $5. Filing is non-partisan in Surry and Yadkin counties.
Voter registration for the 2011 November election ends in North Carolina at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
