Staff report
The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program has awarded four local schools with $500 grants. The grants were awarded the first week of November to the principals of Elkin Elementary, Boonville Elementary, Ronda-Clingman Elementary and Sparta Elementary schools. The grants will be used to fund science and math education programs at each school.
The staff of local Exxon distributer, G&B Energy, worked with school officials to secure the grants in their service area. The Exxon Mobil Corporation annually supplies funding for 4,000 grants. The educational grants are available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil gas stations
"These schools work diligently to make learning interesting and fun. As Exxon distributors, we are proud to work with school administrators to secure funding local schools most desperately need," said G&B President, Jeff Eidson.
The grants were awarded on behalf of G&B Energy, State Road Grocery, H.G. Greene's Grocery in Clingman, Boonville Quik Pik and Sparta Exxon.
The ExxonMobil Educa-tional Alliance program is designed to provide Exxon and Mobil retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities through educational grants to neighborhood schools. ExxonMobil believes that, as members of the community, local retailers are best qualified to work with local educators to help identify schools and programs most in need of support.
Over the last eight years G&B Energy has worked with the ExxonMobil Foundation to obtain 42 grants totaling $21,500. G&B Energy operates seven oil, propane and hearth product distribution facilities throughout Western, N.C. G&B Energy is headquartered in Elkin, where it also operates as a distributer of Exxon fuels to many gas stations and convenience store throughout the region.
