Elkin Police officer Josh Tolbert arrested Ricky Joe Combs, 41 of Ronda on Sunday, Nov. 2 near the KFC on North Bridge Street.
Combs was driving a black 1992 Mazda and was making an improper turn when Tolbert pulled him over.
Tolbert reported that Combs was noticeably impaired. Combs was arrested and a search of his vehicle ensued.
Found in the vehicle were Schedule IV controlled substances in the form of Alprazolam, which is generic for Xanax, along with the corner piece of a small plastic bag that contained 5 grams of powdered cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance.
Combs was transported to the Elkin Police Department where a toximeter test showed an alcohol level of .32, four times the legal limit.
He was charged with DWI, possession of Schedule II cocaine, possession of Schedule IV and charged with an improper right turn.
Combs was then taken to Dobson to appear before the magistrate and was given a $2,550 secured bond for the DWI and a $5,000 secured bond for the controlled substance charges.
According to the Surry County sheriff's Office, Combs bonded out in the morning hours of Nov. 3. A court date of Dec. 9 for the district court session in Dobson has been set.
