ssteiner@elkintribune.comThe scanner sounded around 9:30 p.m. Sunday that a building at 141 Taylor Street in Yadkinville had caught fire. Several minutes later, another report came over the scanner that explosions had been reported.
By the time firefighters from several forces, among them Boonville Community Fire Department, Yadkinville Fire Department and West Yadkin Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters found a building totally engulfed in flames.
It took firefighters approximately 30 - 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. In the process, it was learned that no humans were injured, but at least two dogs perished. Also destroyed was an automobile and office furniture.
The fire also burned away the roof of the building.
The family, whose names were not released at press time, were besides themselves with grief over the loss of their pets.
According to one firefighter who was directing traffic away from the street, it was originally believed that the house on the property had caught fire. It was later discovered that an outbuilding, believed to be an auto workshop, was the building that was razed by fire.
Several lead firefighters do not believe the fire is of a suspicious nature, but a full investigation was not scheduled to take place until daylight today, Nov. 3.
