The Tri-Star Lady Outlaws, a new AAU girls basketball program directed by Starmount basketball coach Kyle Hutchens, will hold tryouts on Aug. 9 at Starmount High School.

Here are the times:

* 10-and-under: 1-2:30 p.m.

* 12-and-under: 1-2:30 p.m.

* 14-and-under: 3-4:30 p.m.

* 16-and-under: 3-4:30 p.m.

Also, the Surry Storm Girls Basketball Club will be holding tryouts for interested players on Aug. 24 at Mount Airy Middle School.

Here are the times for those tryouts:

* Players born in 1997, 1998 and 1999 from 1-2:30 p.m.

* Players born in 1995 and 1996 from 2:30-4 p.m.

* Players born in 1991-94 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Starmount sports season passes on sale

Season passes to Starmount sporting events will be on sale Aug. 7, 12, 14, 19 and 21 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the press box at the football field.


Stars and Stripes Soccer League holding sign-ups

Registration is being taken until Aug. 30 for ages 3 and up for the fall season of the new Stars and Stripes Soccer League.

Teams will be form around the school that the child is going to be attending. The league takes in the eastern part of Wilkes County, the western part of Surry County and the Elkin and Jonesville areas.

The fee is $35 for the first child, $25 for the second child and $20 for each additional child. Games will start after Sept. 6th.

For more information and registration contact Harold DeCelle at 835-1394. The league will try to form Challenge and Classic teams this winter for spring season, for ages of U10 and up.


Deadline Friday for G&B Golf Classic

The 16th annual G&B Energy Charity Golf Classic will be held Thursday, Sept. 4 at Cedarbrook Country Club.

The entry deadline is Friday, Aug. 8. Tournament proceeds will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Yadkin Valley United Fund.

The cost is $140 per player ($115 for Cedarbrook members). The fee includes one mulligan, skins game, golf shirt and other goodies in addition to green fees and cart.

The tournament format is captain's choice, four-person teams. Morning play will begin at 8 a.m. Afternoon play will start at 2 p.m.
