The usage policy was passed Monday for the new Jonesville Government and Welcome Center. After a meeting between the Jonesville Tourism Authority and the town commissioner's rules and regulations were ironed out as well as who would be allowed to rent the facility.

An early draft was taken off the table due to a clause revolving around the pouring of alcohol at functions with a majority of legal drinkers present.

"We removed the alcohol clause," Laurette Leagon said on behalf of the Tourism Authority, "but left the door open for a case by case variance." Leagon said that they would review each request as they came in with the town commissioners.

Also removed from the document was the original intent to be able to use the building at for-profit functions.

"We took the for-profit rental opportunities out of the original document," Leagon said. "because the commissioners thought that it would not be fair to other businesses in the area that would be in competition with the center."

Several Jonesville hotels and restaurants rent meeting areas for business meetings and functions. Leagon said that an exception would be for certain training programs bringing up OSHA certification as an example.

"If it's that sort of business training," Leagon said, "we can run it through a government entity."

Both parties had a chance to review the new document during Monday monthly meetings.

A daily visitors log was also introduced with total visits to the center for the past three months with a steady increase in visits each month.

The month of April had 45 visits during the last ten days the center was open for. May saw 247 visits during the entire month. And June capped off at a total of 328 visitors to the welcome center.

A visitor's log is being added after a suggestion to do so by Tommy Casstevens.

Upcoming improvements to the center include politicking for a visitor's center sign on Interstate 77. A project Leagon said that they hope to get both the Tourism Authority and board of commissioners to work for.
