Starmount standout picked for annual East-West game

Recent Starmount graduate Victor Davila has been selected to play in North Carolina's premier high school all-star game.

The two-time all-state player is set to suit up for the West squad in the annual N.C. East-West All-Star basketball game in Greensboro on July 21.

Davila, who played for the Rams varsity team for four seasons after moving to Yadkin County from Puerto Rico, leaves the Boonville school as the all-time leading scorer and rebounder.

This past season he averaged 20 points, 11.5 rebounds and six blocked shots. He finished his prep career with 1,941 points and 1,470 rebounds. He helped Starmount reach the state title game in 2007 and the 2AWest semifinals this past winter.

The Tribune's 2007 and 2008 Player of the Year will continue his hoops career at Virginia Tech. He is already on campus in Blacksburg for summer classes in preparation for the 2008-09 school year.

Also on the West all-star roster with Davila are Petey Hausley (McDowell), Cameron Lovelace (Cherryville), Jamere Pagan (Hunter Huss), Titus Robinson (East Mecklenburg), Kendall Smith (Glenn), Malik Stith (East Mecklenberg), Justin Vanderford (East Rowan), Chris VanLandingham (North Henderson) and Marcus Wright (Winston-Salem Prep).

One of the most intriguing match-ups of the all-star clash will be Davila (who stands 6-foot-9) going up against East center Ty Walker, a 7-footer who has signed with Wake Forest. The two have played against each other before in other showcase games and will be rivals in the ACC as well over the next several seasons.

Other players on the East roster include Terrell Barrett (Farmville Central), Michael Bonner (Perquimans), Bo Ingram (Kinston), Adonte McCarter (J.H. Rose), Hunter McClintock (Northern Durham), Lamar Monger (Hertford County), J.D. Pelham (Green Hope), Justin Watts (C.E. Jordan) and C.J. Williams (Jack Britt).

Williams, a 6-foot-5 forward, has signed with NC State.
