Lonnie Ray Baker, age 86 of 560 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin passed away Wed. June 11, 2008 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Mr. Baker was born in Surry County on Jan. 5, 1922 to the late Lon Baker and Della Cockerham Baker. He served in the United States Army, and retired from Chatham Mafuaturing Company after 42 years of service. He was also a member of Freindship Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister: Lorene Clodfelter, a brother: Fred Baker.

He is survived by two children: Nancy Baker Hemric and husband Bruce of Winston-Salem, Michael Ray Baker and wife Maidron of Elkin. Two grandchildren: Robin Hemric and Brian Baker. Five great grandchildren: Brittany Mabe, Brandon Mabe, Micah Baker, Caeson Baker, Presley Baker. Several loving nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., June 14, 2008 at Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road. the Rev. Jonah Parker, and the Rev. Russ Nixon will be officiating. The Baker family will receive friends Friday evening, June 13, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Elkin. The Baker family would like to thank Hugh Chatham Hospital 3rd floor Nursing Station and Elkin Healthcare for all the love, care and support. In lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to donor's choice in memory of Lonnie. Johnson Funeral Home of Elkin is serving the Baker Family.
