Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital's Foundation is hoping to have some fun and raise some money Friday night to finance its new lab.

The event is the sixth annual Wine Auction, a black-tie optional social event that will offer bidding on items such as paintings by local artist, fine dining for two at some upscale area restaurants and a bass fishing trip on Lake Norman led by Alvin Shaw.

"A lot of the guys are excited about the Alvin Shaw fishing trip," the foundation's Patricia Wagoner said.

The group is hoping to raise close to $40,000.

Cookbooks by Flossie Johnson are also a hot item.

On the list of live auction items is dinning for two at the Kitchen at Elkin Creek, an Elkin area winery. Shelton Vineyards' harvest Grill is also offering dining for the auction.

Sheltons and Childress Vineyards each offers a magnum of wine.

You could also purchase a $150 bottle of Napa Valley wine and a stay at Dr. Flippin's Bed & Breakfast.

Local artist Anne Gulley has donated one of her reknowned cow paintings.

Tickets are $50 each and available at the foundation office at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Jonesville.

The event is a precursor to the seventh annual yadkin Valley Wine Festival Saturday
