That was the scenario at Forbush High School on Friday and Saturday as the Falcons hosted its Super Duals tournament.
Hibriten won the event with a perfect 9-0 record, while local teams Surry Central placed fifth and East Wilkes ninth.
Host Forbush was third in its own event, losing only to the champions and second-place North Surry.
Surry Central went 5-4 in the tourney -- beating Reagan (60-28), Mount Airy (63-18), East Wilkes (60-22), Wilkes Central (48-36) and Maiden (72-12). The Golden Eagles posted losses against Hibriten (44-34), South Stokes (40-33), North Surry (48-27) and Forbush (44-30).
Casey Felts (125 pounds) and Jed Martin (171) went undefeated for Surry Central, each earning 9-0 records. The headline match for Martin came against Forbush's Christian Harris. Martin is ranked first in the state in 1A/2A at 171 pounds, while Harris is ranked third.
Martin took a tough 4-2 decision, getting the winning points in the third period.
Austin Oakley (140), Will Lawrence (215) and Stephen Maynard (Heavyweight) each finished 8-1 for the weekend. Cesar Pena (119) went 7-2.
The Eagles are now 10-7 overall in dual-team matches on the season.
"I thought we wrestled well at times," Central coach Stephen Priddy said. "Some of the teams we didn't match up as well. Some teams beat us, but we beat teams that beat them."
East Wilkes, which didn't have enough wrestlers to field a full team, finished 1-8 against tough competition. The Cardinals' win came against last-place Mount Airy.
Josh Nations (189 pounds) wrestled well against the Granite Bears, earning a pin. Josh Byrd (171) also won by pin in that match. Both grapplers won by fall against South Stokes, as did Cale Bartley at 125.
Nations pinned his Forbush opponent in 33 seconds. Preston Myers earned a pin against Forbush in 54 seconds in the 152 weight class.
Brian Woodle won by pin at 103 in 3:54. Derek Evans won by tech-fall (15-0) in the 160 division.
East Wilkes closest loss was 48-36 against Maiden.
Coming up Tuesday, Surry Central will wrestle at home against East Surry. That dual could pit Jed Martin against fifth-ranked Jeremy Perdue at 171.
East Wilkes doesn't have another match scheduled until the Dec. 28 tournament at North Wilkes.
