Staff Report

The Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce is one of three programs in the Piedmont Triad to receive funding for tourism marketing grants distributed by the N.C. Department of Commerce.

The chamber of commerce, which represents parts of Surry and Yadkin counties, will receive a $3,000 grant to target new visitors for the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival through print media. The wine festival is fast becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area, attracting up to 10,000 visitors at the most recent event, which generated more than a half million dollars in tourism revenue for the area.

The other two recipients are Central Park N.C., an initiative that includes Montgomery, Davidson and Randolph counties, which will receive a $3,500 grant to promote the Uwharrie triathlon.

The Montgomery County Economic Development Corp. will receive a $6,750 grant for marketing and promoting the county's bicycle routes.

Each of the grants requires matching funds.
