Elkin lost at East Montgomery 3-1 in the 1A tournament, while Starmount fell 3-0 at Owen in the 2A brackets.
Esteban Bustos had the Buckin' Elks' lone goal. Elkin outshot East Montgomery for the game but couldn't slide another shot into the net. With the score 2-1, the Elks had two would-be scores bounce off the frame of the goal.
East Montgomery tacked on a late score for the final margin. The Buckin' Elks' season comes to a close at 17-7-1.
The Rams seemed out of sorts from the start of their contest, coach Dale Draughn said. Owen scored twice in the first half and added its third goal after the break.
Both Justin Shores and Javier Salinas -- two of the Rams' top scorers this season -- were ejected from the contest. Shores was disqualified after picking up his second yellow card, while Salinas received a red card as part of a physical second half.
"This is not the way we wanted to end our season or the round we wanted to end it in, but sometime the cards are stacked against you from the start and you try and try to overcome them but end the end you can not," Draughn said.
Starmount finished the season 12-6-2. Owen (10-7-2) moves on to Tuesday's third round where it will face Brevard.
"We had our struggles at the beginning of the season and we went through a very rough period, but we found our way and started playing soccer like we know how to play," Draughn said. "If we did not then we may not have made the playoffs."
