The Rev. Russ Nixon and Elva Bullins Nixon of Thurmond celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 5, 2007. They were married Oct. 5, 1957, at Rocky Ford Baptist Church near Devotion. The Rev. J. A. Gilley performed the wedding. Their wedding was the first wedding held in this church.

They have one son, Marty Nixon and his wife, Angela, and two grandchildren, Zachary and Ashlyn. A surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration was held for the couple on Sunday, Oct. 14, at Cool Springs Baptist Church where the Rev. Russ Nixon is Pastor. Their children and Cool Springs baptist Church gave the celebration with family, friends and church members attending. The couple enjoyed their anniversary on Oct. 5, with a meal at The Depot with their family. Their gift to each other was a bus tour to Niagara Falls, N.Y. This was a destination they have wanted to visit their entire life and were able to celebrate their 50 years together in Niagara Falls.
