Shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, a Jonesville police officer attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop when a suspect sped off in a white Nissan truck with a moped in the truck bed.
The officer maintained pursuit of the suspect into Elkin onto North Bridge Street, where the speed of the chase reached dangerous levels. The chase was terminated shortly thereafter.
“Due to the amount of traffic, the high speed and reckless movements of the suspect, the chase was terminated in the interest of public safety,” said Officer Vestal.
Details that can be provided to the public at this point are minimal, but the investigation is continuing.
