Sometimes “wheels” turn slowly, but when they do, things happen.

This past autumn, Eddie Bobbit Sr., a sergeant of the Elkin Rescue Squad, works at Outfitters, an automotive business that sells and repairs tires. One of its clients is Fedral Finance.

In a conversation with someone with Federal Finance this past autumn, Bobbit mentioned that one of its vehicles was temporarily out of commission because of an accident in which the vehicle had struck a deer.

That chance remark put the “wheels in motion,” prompting Elkin branch manager Dee Cox to raise the idea with bank officials. It culminated in a presentation Dec. 22, when Federal Finance president/CEO Ralph Williams and Cox presented the keys to a 2000 Dodge Durango to Bobbit and Chief James Anderson.

“We really appreciate what they do and hope the vehicle gives them many years of good service,” said Williams.

Cox echoed his sentiment.

“We’re happy to help the community with the economic times like they are,” she said. “There’s no better way to give back. Mr. Williams truly believes you reap what you sew.”

The rescue squad is honored to receive the vehicle, which it will add to its fleet — after some modifications.

“We’re going to paint it white and give it the ‘Rescue Squad’ look,” said Bobbit.

Bobbit was recently recognized as the most improved squad member of the year. He also was bestowed the honor of the Roy H. Kane squad member of the year, and his commitment to obtaining the Durango was cited as a major factor in his nomination.
