Dereck Barker will be preaching at Garden Creek Baptist Church Sunday at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited to worship in this historic church within the boundaries of Stone Mountain State Park. Campers are encouraged to come as they are.

Roaring Gap Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School this week through Friday from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. with dinner provided each evening at 6 p.m. All ages are welcomed.

Welcome Home Missionary Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School through Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, they will end it with a Fun Day with lots of games, food, and activities beginning at 3 p.m. Pastor Ritchie Harris invites everyone to attend.

Old Roaring River Baptist Church located at 13932 Longbottom Road, Traphill, will have a One-Day Vacation Bible School, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme this year is “Outback Rock” where kids venture into solid faith. They invite all children from the ages of 6 to 16 to come and enjoy a great time of Bible Lessons and fun. Lunch will be served.

Summer Reading Program will begin at Traphill Branch Library on June 16 with a story time at 11 a.m. This year’s theme is “Every Hero Has A Story.” On June 23, there will be a program presented by the NC Museum of Natural Sciences at 11:30 a.m.

New DVDs at the library ready to check out include “Big Hero 6” and “Into the Woods.”

The Friends of Traphill Branch Library will host an Open House/Farewell to librarian Ola Norman and welcome to the new librarian Brittney Barbour on June 20. I am retiring after serving 20 years as the librarian. Go by the library that day to meet Brittney and wish me good luck in retirement.

There will be a bake sale and yard sale at Austin Community Center on June 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and June 20 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. to raise funds for the BROC mealsite.

Congratulations to Garrett Fender, who graduated on May 15 from Wilkes Community College with a welding diploma and graduated from North Wilkes High School on June 5. He won first place in NC Welding Fabrication in 2014 Skills USA and was the 2015 Regional winner and the state winner in Welding Fabrication Skills USA. He will be going to Louisville, Kentucky, later in the month for National Competition. He received a $1,000 scholarship from Wilkes Communications and a $400 Joel Motsinger scholarship for Wilkes Community College. He has also been traveling throughout the United States going to world champion coon hunts.

Betty Jo Walsh is doing so much better after healing from the back surgery she had some time back. She would like to thank everyone for their prayers and good thoughts, visits, and phone calls during the last three years that she’s had so much trouble getting about.

Congratulations to Troy Porter and Cassandra Layell, who were married on May 29. Troy is the son of Wendy and Brian Porter and the grandson of Johnny and Carol Kennedy.

Congratulations to Belinda Martin and Michael Souther, who were married June 6 at the Blackburn Farm.

Get well wishes go to Kay Hawkins, who has been in the hospital recently.

Condolences go to the family of Melba Waddell Stone, who died on May 17 in Yuma, Arizona. She was the daughter of Homer Waddell.
