4-H livestock show to showcase local youth

Staff Report

YADKINVILLE — Those dreading another Saturday of doing the same old things like yard work, washing the car and cleaning the house can make plans to do something different and in the process show support to local youth. Attend the annual Yadkin-Davie 4-H Livestock Show on Aug. 13, starting at noon. The show will be held at Lone Hickory Arena, 1950 Bethel Church Road, in Yadkinville. Admission to the show is free.

The annual Yadkin-Davie 4-H Livestock Show is a great opportunity for local youth to showcase their animals as well as the knowledge they gain from the projects. Youth from Davie, Yadkin and surrounding counties will be exhibiting their beef, sheep, and goats for a chance to win championships, prizes, and bragging rights.

These youth have been preparing their livestock projects over the spring and summer getting ready for this show and many other shows this fall. Most of these youth will compete at the Dixie Classic and NC State Fairs later this year. Through these livestock projects, youth learn important life-skills like sportsmanship, animal management, dealing with adversity, time management, patience, and others.

This will be the first show of the fall show season for some and the first show ever for others. No matter the experience level, it is a wonderful sight to see the kids helping and encouraging each other throughout the show.

The show starts at noon but come out early and watch the kids groom and prepare their livestock for the judge to evaluate. The concession stand at Lone Hickory Arena will be open and cooking plenty of good things to enjoy.

Any questions or concerns can be addressed by contacting the Extension Center at Davie County at 336-753-6100 or Yadkin County at 336-679-2061.
