Mayor’s vote needed to break tie

Elkin’s mayor was needed to cast a tie-breaking vote on Monday night. The Elkin commissioners were at an impasse over selection of a which “poop n’ scoop” sign would best remind owners of pets within town limits of their responsibilities.Procedural rules prevent any vote by Elkin’s mayor unless the board of commissioners is in a tie scenario. Since Elkin has five commissioners who are almost always in attendance, the likelihood of a mayor casting a vote are slim to none.However, Commissioner Skip Whitman was on an excused absence for the town meeting. During the meeting, commissioners weighed in on the animal control signage selection.

Coins tossed in Liberty fountain are stolen

A downtown business leader is saying she’s taking aggressive steps to pursue the person who siphoned coins out of the water fountain placed on her property.In March, the water fountain that sits adjacent to the parking lot entrance of The Liberty was dedicated to the Yadkin Valley United Fund, a local charity. Jonesville Town Council debates heavy agenda
