Book characters to come alive during breakfast

Storybook characters come alive during a fundraiser organized by the Friends of Elkin Public Library.The organization will host its second annual Storybook Character Breakfast on May 3 at 9 a.m. at the Elkin First United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 340 Hawthorne Road.According to event organizers, 22 students from Interact, a program administered by Elkin High School and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Elkin, will character up in costumes during the morning event.

NCDOT to begin pavement rehabilitation project on I-77 in Surry County

SHELBY — On April 22, the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin a pavement rehabilitation project along Interstate 77 near Mount Airy in Surry County.
