Crime: Property Damage, Larceny

When reported: 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 25

Where: 100 block of Parkwood Rd., Elkin

Damaged: $20 syringe disposal container, syringes

Details: A woman reported that she noticed the syringe disposal container inside a room had been broken into and all the disposal syringes had been taken from the container, according to an Elkin Police report. Case closed.

Crime: Larceny of Candy

When reported: 4:25 p.m. on Jan. 26

Where: Wal-Mart

Stolen: $2 worth of chocolate candy

Details: Police responded to a call at Wal-Mart and were told by an employee that a man had stolen several items, according to the Elkin Police report. The employee saw the man open a pack of chocolate candy, walk through the store and lean into clothing racks and eat a piece, according to the report. The man then put the pack of candy inside his jacket, and an employee approached him, according to the report.

Crime: Concealment of Merchandise

When reported: 7:35 p.m. on Jan. 28

Where: Wal-Mart

Stolen: $3 plug in scent dispenser, $5 scented refills, $40 “Sons of Anarchy” DVD

Details: Officers responded to a larceny call at Wal-Mart and waited outside the store for suspects to exit, according to an Elkin Police report. When officers saw the suspects, they asked them to empty their pockets. One man handed the scent dispenser and refills and the other said he had taken a DVD set but didn’t know where the discs were. Officers searched the man and found the DVDs in his coat, according to the report. Case closed.

Crime: Assault with a deadly weapon

When reported: 3:57 a.m. on Jan. 29

Where: 300 block of Johnson Ridge Rd.

Details: Officers responded to a call and found a man lying face down on the kitchen floor of a residence, according to the Elkin Police report. Police banged loudly on the door and got no reaction. Police were able to enter the house by an unsecured basement door, according to the report. They found the man lying face down with left over his head holding a large kitchen knife. The man was breathing and had lacerations to his forearm, according to the report. Officers were able to speak to the man and found he was very intoxicated. After the man was taken to the hospital, he told officers that a white female came at him with a knife and the injuries occurred when he defended himself, according to the report. He said he didn’t know who the woman was or why she would attack him. Case closed.
