Dr. Randy Bledsoe and Elkin High School’s Principal Joel Hoyle honored the Elkin Police Department Thursday as part of the annual National Police Week celebration.
Dr. Bledsoe presented certificates of appreciation to Police Chief Wagoner and Officer Kevin Hall. Hall is the Elkin High and Middle School’s school resource officer.
The week is part of a tradition set in 1962 by the late President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy set May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week encompassing it as National Police Week.
Every year thousands of police officers descend on Washington, D.C. for numerous events. One event is a 5K run to honor those who have died in the line of duty, with funds raised going to assist those who have lost family members.
