Sheetz Convenience Restaurants opened its 45th North Carolina location June 29 in Dobson, and Elkin may be one of the next North Carolina locations to open.
According to the corporate office real estate department, Sheetz has a site in Elkin under agreement to purchase.
“We do have an agreement to purchase the property, however the agreement is contingent upon us getting permits and approvals and we are just at the preliminary stages of designing the site, having our engineers design the site. We’re still working on the design,” said Steve Augustine, director of real estate at Sheetz Inc.
Augustine could not provide an exact timeframe.
The proposed site is at the intersection of North Bridge Street and CC Camp Road next to Wells Fargo.
“From the planning standpoint, obviously that business and property are appropriate for that zoning district,” said George Crater, planning director for the Town of Elkin. “From the planning department there are no issues, we are just still on hold waiting for final confirmation from Sheetz.”
“The Town of Elkin would very much welcome Sheetz into our business community, and during the permitting process we hope they find that it suits their needs,” said Leslie Schlender, Town of Elkin economic development director.
