Former sports editor for The Tribune, Eric Lusk, appeared in Surry County District court Oct. 23.

It was his second appearance in court since his arrest on May 24.

Lusk appeared Oct. 23 with a representative from Crumpler, Freedman, Parker & Witt law firm of Winston-Salem, and was given a further court date of Dec. 18. Lusk is represented by David B. Freedman.

Lusk was arrested on May 24 with one felonious charge of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor (possession of child pornography), according to an Elkin Police Department release.

The charge stemmed from evidence seized from Lusk’s home on May 22 during the execution of a search warrant.

The warrant signed by magistrate Chris Lane said Lusk “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously possessed material containing visual representation of an unknown white, seven-year-old female engaging in sexual activity with an adult male.”

“It was discovered by the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force,” said Elkin detective Mendy Peles.

The video was digitally downloaded from the Internet, according to Peeles.

Lusk worked as a sports editor for The Tribune from 2006 to 2010. After leaving the paper, he started Lusk Media and continued to cover local sports through his Yadkin Valley Sports website and through Foothills Magazine.

Lusk was covering the area sports until his arrest on Thursday, May 24, when he was charged with one count of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor (possession of child pornography), according to Chief Monroe Wagoner in an Elkin Police Department release.

Prior to his work with The Tribune, he worked at the Wake Weekly as sports editor, the Cary News as an education reporter and The Verde Independent in Arizona as sports editor.
