Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital introduced its new interim CEO Monday on the heels of former CEO David Loving’s resignation.
Michael Arno was appointed to replace Loving until a nationwide search is conducted to find a permanent replacement for Loving, according to a press release from the hospital.
Arno is a graduate of the University of Colorado, where he received his MBA and MHA. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
He is also a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, where he received his bachelor’s in biology.
Arno has worked in the health care profession for more than 20 years, most recently as a consultant on hospital administration.
His prior leadership roles include the CEO position at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, Ill.
According to the press release, he “led a cultural and financial turnaround that saw net revenues grow 25 percent and core measures reach the 90th percentile, a best-in-class performance for the Provena system.”
Arno was the Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer for Provena Health. He served in the COO role from February of 2007 until December 2008, beginning his time as CEO in January 2009 until October 2011.
Prior to his time there he served as CEO and COO of Health Management Associates, Inc, from January 2001 until February of 2007.
“We look forward to Michael continuing to strengthen Hugh Chatham’s role as the region’s choice for technology and care,” said Chris West, president of Alliant Management Services, which manages Hugh Chatham under an agreement with the Hospital Board of Directors.
Alliant is based in Louisville, Ky.
“Michael will be a great asset to the hospital and the community in leading Hugh Chatham through this transition,” West said. “He’s an experienced hospital executive who understands the challenges and rewards of health care today.”
