Retailers prepare for Black Friday sales
by Darcie Dyer
Staff Writer

As soon as the excitement of Thanksgiving Day passes, the holiday shopping frenzy can start.

The Friday after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, has become a big sale day for merchandisers nation-wide. Locally, Walmart, Goody’s, Belk and Lowe’s are among the larger retailers that will be participating in Black Friday sales and doorbusters.

Walmart

Elkin’s Walmart, located on CC Camp Road, is open 24 hours a day, with the exception of Christmas Day. It will be open on Thanksgiving Day as well as Black Friday.

“Sales start at 8 p.m. on Thursday, and then more sales begin at 10 p.m. Thursday and then 5 a.m. on Friday,” said Mike Pool, assistant store manager.

Among Black Friday deals at Walmart are 32-inch Samsung HDTVs for $248, Apple Ipod Nanos starting at $139, HP 15.6 inch Laptops for $299 and an array of other savings.

For more information, contact Walmart at 526-2636.

Goody’s

Goody’s will be opening at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Day to kick-off the Black Friday festivities early.

“We will be open from 8 p.m. until midnight on Thursday and then from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Black Friday,” said Carolyn Martin, Goody’s store manager.

Martin said the first 25 customers on both days will receive scratch-off cards with a chance to win a $100 gift card.

Goody’s door-buster deals will be all evening on Thursday and until 1 p.m. on Friday and will include rampage boots for $19.99, diamond bracelets for $39.99, 7-inch android tablet for $49.99 among others.

“We’re hoping for a big crowd,” Martin said. “With us being open at 8 p.m. and most stores aren’t opening until midnight, we’re hoping to get a big crowd.”

For more information, contact Goody’s at 835-0037.

Belk

Belk will be opening at midnight on Black Friday and will remain open throughout the day on Black Friday until 10 p.m.

Belk is offering over 330 Early Bird Black Friday specials from 12 a.m. Friday until 1 p.m. Early bird specials include 40-70 percent off electrics and gifts for the home, 50-60 percent off women’s and men’s shoes, 50-75 percent off watches and jewelry and many other deals on clothing and items for the home.

For more information, contact Belk at 835-4540.

Lowe’s

Lowe’s will be opening at 5 a.m. on Friday morning with Black Friday deals.

For more information, contact Lowe’s at 526-6550.
