Yadkin Valley business owners were recognized for their work in the community on Thursday night.
One-hundred and eight attendees came to celebrate the hard work of Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce members and encourage the 2012-2013 board.
“I look forward to all of the work we will do together,” said Randy Bledsoe, the 2012-2013 chamber chair. “I’m excited for all we can achieve this coming year.”
Bledsoe said he is excited to take the Chamber of Commerce to “another level.”
“I always look at everything with my glass half full,” he said. “We have a great group of leaders and we can make our area even greater.”
Awards were presented for:
- Education Excellence Award to physical education teachers Heath Foster & Jackie Thornburg for the Presidential Fitness Awards.
-Community Beautification Award to Elkin High School and Dobson BB&T
-The Rebel Good Award to Joe Walker of AllStar Rentals
-Duke Citizenship Award to Hannah Holyfield of the Rockford Inn and Gary York of WIFM
“The happiest people I know are those seeking to serve others,” said award winner, Gary York. “By seeking these opportunities, we enhance the lives of one another. I’m honored, humbled and thank you for making this the greatest place to live.”
-Member of the Year Award to Michael Wilson of The Fairfield Inn
-Johnsie Hudspeth Award to Jerry Stroud of Duke Energy
-Web Smalling Award to Lori Tacket of Walmart
As Ann Ashman presented the Rebel Good Award to Joe Walker, she said it was because he believed in what tourism could do for Elkin. Walker was the first tourism chair for Elkin, and Walker and Good worked together to bring the Wine Festival to Elkin 11 years ago.
“Tourism is important and is the bright spot in our economy,” Walker said. “I accept this award on behalf of everyone here. We are surviving because all of us here work together.”
