Wendy’s may look like it is falling apart, but fast food consumers should not fear. In a few weeks locals and travelers on Interstate 77 will be able to dine at a newly renovated and larger staffed Wendy’s location.

Tad Dolbier, president of Tarheel Capital, the franchise that owns the Jonesville restaurant and 74 others across North Carolina, said the Wendy’s will be closed for six to seven weeks as the renovations take place, with hopes that the restaurant will open in the sixth week.

“This is a state of the art Wendy’s unit,” Dolbier said. “Our Jonesville location has been selected as one of 100 units in the United States to build the latest Wendy’s design. We are very proud to bring this opportunity to the Jonesville community.”

The new building was described in a press release as a new “ultra modern style” with “bold curb appeal.” The restaurant will feature a contemporary design and large windows on the exterior.

The interior will showcase bright, open dining areas with multiple seating options, a new customer ordering process, digital menu board elements and some new test products offered in only a few Wendy’s nationwide.

Included in the test products are bakery items and Wendy’s premium brand coffee, Redhead Roasters.

The face lift is part of a multi-year rebranding strategy Wendy’s is undertaking nationwide.

Doors closed Sunday, May 19, with expectations of opening in early July.

The restaurant will be closed during that time to enable the construction crew, Qualified Builders, Inc. to do its work as quickly as possible.

Social networking has been buzzing about the revamp, with one Starmount graduate asking, “What’s going on at the Wendy’s in Jonesville?” via a Facebook status.

The restaurant has held job fairs over the past few weeks to identify new staff who will help the current employees manage the increased business they are expecting.

“We’re probably hiring 25. We’re starting with our core staff of about 20, 25, and we’re about doubling that,” Dolbier said. “It’s really gearing up for what we anticipate to be a pretty big increase in sales as a result of the remodel.”

“I would anticipate we’ll hire probably to get up to about between 45 and 50 employees,” he added. “We’ll probably end up in the 35 to 40 range when we’re all said and done.”

Wendy’s will continue to hold fairs even while closed. The next is slated for May 23 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Due to the closing the fair will be held in the nearby Hampton Inn.
