The Liberty located in downtown Elkin on Main Street is presenting a night of entertainment that kicks off after the conclusion of the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival on May 18.
Two bands will showcase their talent with the first performance beginning at 6 p.m.
“We have the Elkin Big Band followed by ‘Not Your Ordinary,’” said Liberty owner Cicely McColloch.
“It’s great knowing we’ll be playing in The Liberty,” said Elkin Big Band leader Larry Irwin who also owns Elk Pharmacy on Main Street.. “We have a traditional big band. This all started in 1980. It’s our honor to bring our music and kick off not only an evening of fun, but I am so pleased to play for Cicely and the great work she’s done at The Liberty and downtown.”
A big band is a type of musical ensemble that originated in the United States and is associated with jazz and the Swing Era typically consisting of rhythm, brass, and woodwind instruments totaling approximately 12 to 25 musicians. Irwin says his band is more traditional, 16 members or higher, and he’s looking forward to a night of fun.
Not Your Ordinary is a popular local group featuring Thomas Cory Myers, Davidson Smith, and Chip Einstein who will play from 8:30 p.m. until. The trio at times have been known for allowing guest musicians jump in and add to their rhythmic energy and sound.
There is a $5 cover charge for this event. McColloch said the food and beverages will be sold throughout the performances. The Liberty also has off-street parking available for its patrons.
