Ivy Ridge Traditions had gift items for all types of occasions.
But the community will now have to go elsewhere for specialty items.
“It saddens me deeply that they are closing,” said Teresa Smith Ray, chair of the Main Street Advisory Board and owner of Harry’s Place. “There are very few places I can buy presents, and that was one of the main ones I went to.”
Owner Angela Day opened Ivy Ridge in downtown Elkin four years ago in 2008. She also owns another store location in North Wilkesboro, which will turn 12 years old this year.
“We opened in downtown Elkin after Surry Gift Shop closed,” Day said. “It was a good place to expand. It is a beautiful building.”
Day has marked down merchandise at Ivy Ridge to 20% off, but has no set closing date.
“Ivy Ridge is my go to place when I need to buy a gift for someone. I always try to do all my shopping downtown or in Elkin,” Ray said. “If more people would shop local, they probably wouldn’t be closing.”
Businesses interested in renting the space can contact Wally Holcomb at 252-723-3622. The building is 5,000 square feet on the main floor and upstairs and also has a basement.
“We really hate to see them go,” said Main Street and Community director, Theresa Knops.

“I just hope that someone else opens up another store,” Ray said. “When people see businesses closing, it’s a deterrent for economic growth downtown. I hope we can get another store of such in our downtown.”
