WINSTON-SALEM - Three recent Starmount graduates will take the field tonight at Wake Forest University for Powerade State Games of North Carolina.
Dillon Dobson, Dillon Bray and Alex Barr will join 17 other high school seniors from the western half of the state in an East/West senior two-game showcase at the home of the Demon Deacons.
Led by Mount Tabor High School head coach Mike Lovelace and Rams skipper Mike McCann, the West Seniors will battle a 20-man squad from the East in two games tonight. Game 1 will begin at 4 p.m., while Game 2 is scheduled for 8 p.m.
A home run derby is also scheduled in between the two contests, featuring the best power hitters in the state.
Dobson and Bray powered their way to all-conference nominations this past spring in their senior campaigns, while Barr was sidelined with a knee injury suffered during basketball season.
Dobson, Bray and Barr helped power the Rams to the Mountain Valley Conference tournament title and the No. 2 2A seed from the conference. Starmount was upset on a walk-off hit in the opening round of the state playoffs against Maiden.
The State Games will not be the final time the trio will suit up together, as all three ballplayers inked letters of intent in the collegiate ranks.
Dobson and Barr will head to Boone to join defending Southern Conference champion Appalachian State, while Bray will play at rival Western Carolina.
