With the Olympics coming to an end Sunday, another clan also finished their own Olympic games.

The Lineberry family, with ties to Jonesville, hosted their 37th annual Lineberry Olympics this summer.

Leonard Lineberry and his wife Pearl Fisher Lineberry, both Jonesville natives, started the event in 1976 as a way to keep their family connected to one another. Now, it has grown into an annual and highly-anticipated tradition.

This year’s Lineberry Olympics drew a crowd of 74 family members from Arizona, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

The family of Pearl and Leonard Lineberry, residents of the Village of Alhambra, Fla. hosted this year’s event and had 45 members of their family participate in the festivities.

In true Olypmpic fashion, the day’s festivities began with opening ceremonies, which included members of each family parading on the Polo fields behind a ringleader holding a sign with the families names.

The different events were named in honor of the six children of Fred and Olive Lineberry. Every year the family Olympics is hosted by one of those six children and the families typically come up with the game ideas. This years games included Craft Hog Geaven, Sprinkle Splash, Neal Lineberry Hula Shoot, Vaughn Lost Your Marbles, Daniel Card Shark and Leonard Lineberry Obstacle Course.

The Lineberry family hopes to continue the tradition, making next year their 38th annual Lineberry Olympics.
