Elkin Recreation and Parks Department is embarking on a masterplan for future development.
The plan will essentially create a roadmap for the department’s program and facility development for the next 10 years, according to Adam McComb, director of Elkin Recreation and Parks.
“Recreation and parks is all about our citizens and their recreational interests. For us to plan for future projects, a well thought out plan integrated with heavy citizen input is needed to accurately capture where we want to go,” McComb said. “Whether it be improved athletic fields, new parks or expansion of current facilities, the public input will help guide these decisions considered by the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board and Town Council. The main purpose of the masterplan is to give the recreation and parks department a target to shoot for within 10 years all based on citizen input.”
The Recreation and Parks Advisory Board, park staff and PTRC staff have published a survey to find out how citizens feel about the Town parks and trail system, and what ideas they may have for enhancing the recreational opportunities available in Elkin. The Recreation and Parks department will host a public meeting will be Nov. 15 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Elkin Recreation Center to hear people’s opinions and to allow citizens to fill out a survey.
The survey is already available online on the Town of Elkin’s website, or at, http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/elkinrecreationsurvey. The survey has 5 Sections: Elkin Parks Use, How Do You Recreate, What Do We Need, Trail Use, About You. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes.
