DOBSON — Violent storm damage has closed both lanes of West Mount Herman Church Road, between North Carolina Highways 268 and 601.
Emergency crews are on the scene, trying to clear the road, after a large pine tree fell across the highway some time between noon and 1 p.m. The tree struck and broke a utility pole, sending live wires down to the ground. Initial calls from the Surry County Emergency Services dispatch cautioned crews approaching the area to do so with caution because of the live power lines.
Utility crews have since cut power to the area and are working to restore electric service, while emergency services and highway crews are working to clear the road.
There was no apparent damage to homes or other structures in the area, nor any reported injuries. Additional updates will be posted here at mtairynews.com as information become available.
