The significance of the Fourth of July has a new meaning for the Moxley family this year.
Jane Moxley will be putting out yellow ribbons and hanging American flags to prepare for the homecoming of her daughter Sgt. Ann Marie Moxley.
Sgt. Moxley, daughter of Jane Moxley and the late Jerry Moxley, is returning home from her tour in Kuwait this Independence Day.
“I’m so ready and ecstatic for her to be back, I can’t sleep at night,” exclaimed Moxley. “I haven’t worried about her because I knew the good Lord would watch over her, and He has, because He has brought her safely this far and hopefully safely home tomorrow.”
Sgt. Moxley graduated from Elkin High School in 2002 and joined the National Guard in 2003. She was first deployed in 2006 to Iowa as a heavy equipment mechanic. She returned home to work for Carolina CAT in Charlotte until July of last year.
Sgt. Moxley was deployed with the Winston-Salem National Guard 1452nd Combat HET Company at Araifjan, Al Ahmad, Kuwait in July 2011.
“She is a heavy equipment mechanic,” Moxley explained. “She worked with servicing the equipment and making sure it’s ready for the next mission. She did do missions in Iraq. Her unit’s mission was pulling the equipment out of Iraq.”
Moxley will be picking her daughter up from the airport tomorrow and plans on having a low-key Fourth of July with her at home.
“Her coming home on the Fourth of July has made me think,” she said. “It makes you think of everyone who has died for this country so that we can have the freedom that we have. And it makes you think of those that are now serving and protecting us and giving us the opportunity to have this freedom.”
