The first cruise-in of the year takes off Saturday in Elkin.
The second ‘Cruise Historic Downtown Elkin’ will run from 4 p.m. till 9 p.m. and promises to be even better than last year’s inaugural event.
This year visitors will be able to register their vehicles at the Wells Fargo parking lot downtown and enter to win “Best of Show.”
A winner, second place, and third place finalist will be selected. 300 plus cars are expected, meaning the winner will have beaten a considerable number of challengers to walk away with a prize.
Restaurants and businesses will be open downtown to accommodate the attendees. Recorded music will be played until 6 p.m. when the band takes the stage.
Mickey Galyeen and Cullens Bridge will perform until 9 p.m. Live music is another change up from last year’s cruise.
And of course, people can cruise. Downtown will be open to traffic all night, allowing those who want to experience what it was like to cruise Elkin decades ago.
Or you can park, admire the cars and listen to the music. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the Wells Fargo parking lot.
SRM Paintwerks will also be displaying some of their projects to the public.
This is the first of four cruises that will be during the summer. The 80s and 90s alternative band Orange Crush will perform June 22 and soft rock band Blackwater on August 24.
A band has yet to be determined for the July 27 show.
