Elkin City Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Bledsoe was selected as 2012 North West Regional’s Region 7 Superintendent of the Year.
The award is given by North West Regional Educational Service Alliance (NWRESA), which includes Elkin City Schools and 12 other school systems in this region of North Carolina.
“The award is given annually to a superintendent, and that happened to be me this year,” Bledsoe said.
As NWRESA Superintendent of the Year, Bledsoe will compete in the North Carolina Superintendent of the Year with superintendents in the seven other regions in North Carolina.
Bledsoe was presented with the award at Monday’s board of education meeting by Dr. Joe Sinclair, executive director of NWRESA and Jack Hoke, executive director of the North Carolina Superintendents Association. The plaque reads, “In appreciation to Dr. Randy Bledsoe Superintendent of Elkin City Schools for his outstanding leadership in education.”
Bledsoe, who has been superintendent of Elkin City Schools since August 2008, said this recognition was an honor for him and a reflection of the entire school system.
“I was very honored to receive this award from my peers and my colleagues,” Bledsoe said. “Any award that I receive is due to the work of the administrators, staff and students of Elkin City Schools and this wonderful community that I’m allowed to help lead. It’s a direct reflection of all that is good in the Elkin City Schools.”
