Red Riding Hood is jiving in KidShop Theater Camp
by Jessica Pickens
Staff Writer

For the first time since 2006, Kidshop Theater is back. This time, with a 1950s feel.

Morgan Harrison is the director of “Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood,” a musical comedy about Red Riding Hood during the 1950s.

But along with a grandma and a wolf, a fairy godmother, an evil queen and three princes wanting to woo Red are thrown into the mix.

“Around 1999, Will Shover and I started a three-week drama camp for children,” said Foothills Art Director Leighanne Martin Wright. “We ran it with for five years until I had to step down in 2006 and the camp stopped. This year Morgan Harrison stepped forward, wanting to bring it back and he is at the helm.”

This summer’s camp has 25 children who help build sets and props while also performing the play.

The play “Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood” will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 29, and 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, in the First Baptist Elkin fellowship hall. Admission is free.

Wise Prince Jason is my grandson, Scooter!!!!!!

These kids were AWESOME! Yea God we have a church and local talented leaders who will give of themselves and allow our exuberant young folks a place to learn such a lesson in public speaking, acting and comradeship! Kudos to the performers and the wonderful adult leaders who provided this evening of pure delight! Small towns rule!
